Electrolysis
For permanent, unwanted hair removal, Nancy Messenger, RN uses short wave or thermolysis electrolysis with top of the line Apilus equipment. A small amount of electricity is delivered to the base of the hair follicle, damaging hair growth germ cells and making it difficult for hair to regenerate.
This method is accomplished by inserting a single-use fine, sterile probe into the natural opening of the hair follicle at a certain depth and angle. Electricity is applied and the treated hair is removed with sterile tweezers. The computerized machine adjusts to each hair type and treatment area. This allows for a fast method of hair removal. All clients’ skin is prepped before and after treatment.
Electrolysis can be performed on all colors of skin and hair. Free 15 minute consultation. Call 212-721-8300 to make an appointment.
Electrolysis FAQ’s
Q. Who can have electrolysis?
A. Anyone over 12 years old.
Q. What causes unwanted hair to grow?
A. Genetics, hormones, and some conditions like polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Q. What can I do between treatments if I have a growth spurt?
A. Cut, bleach or shave. No plucking.
Q. How many treatments are required?
A. The number of treatments for each client is different depending on the area and what has been done to it previously.
Q. Is it painful?
A. Everyone has a different pain tolerance. Many clients are comfortable applying ice to the area during treatment. Others purchase numbing creams like LMX or Topicaine. These local anesthetics are applied about 20 minutes prior to a session, and can be purchased in the office.
Q. Can I wear make-up after a session?
A. It is not recommended to wear an oil-based foundation over the treated areas immediately after electrolysis. Water-based or mineral based products are preferred.
Q. Will my skin be red after a treatment?
A. The skin can be slightly irritated after a session. To ease redness and help heal the skin, a toner and therapeutic cover-up are applied. We recommend Witch Hazel twice a day for the first 24 hours and Aloe Vera gelly as needed.
Q. When will I know when to come back for my next appointment?
A. When your hair grows out long enough to get a tweezers on it to pull out, but DON’T!
Q. Can you have electrolysis if you are on Accutane or Retin A/Renova?
A. Accutane: NO
Retina A/Renova: only if you stop applying it two days before your session and stay off two days after your session, if you are having treatment in that area.
